The Difference Between Hajj and Umrah

Hajj is mandatory once in a lifetime; Umrah is recommended

Hajj has specific dates; Umrah can be done any time

Hajj rituals span 5-6 days; Umrah takes 2-3 hours

The Rituals of Umrah

1. Ihram

Enter the state of Ihram at the designated Meeqat point.

2. Tawaf

Perform seven circuits around the Kaaba.

3. Sa'i

Walk seven times between Safa and Marwa.

4. Halq or Taqsir

Men shave or cut hair; women trim a small portion.

Best Time to Perform Umrah

Ramadan — equal in reward to Hajj

December-February — cooler weather
